I've found this powerpoint presentation about the regeneration of Tipner. Its quite interesting, lots of graphics and photos. See if you can spot the LST in there...

It's all horribly fascinating - very different from my childhood when the likely lads went round the Stamshaw foreshore to get in and get a 'bit of metal' for some project or other - and yes, the black mud!!!

The current mums are probably happier - or do kids not filch metal for projects nowadays?

Thanks for the photo's there great.

Pounds Yard reminds me of a scrapyard/vehicle dismantlers near Keele University, I tried to get in there but the dogs were rather large and intimidating and never anyone around wonder what was in there

    Hi,
Thanks for putting the photos up Paul.

I would certainly be interested in seeing the slides of the ships that were at Pounds if you get a chance to dig them out.

Under the mud there is at least one Landing Craft Infantry (small). They scrapped a few in there over the years.

If anyone has any photos of these being scrapped or used as houseboats in the area I would certainly be interested in seeing them.

Also scrapped after being there for many years was Landing Craft Flak 34.

    Regards

    Danny

    Nostalgic stuff Paul.
Pretty sure a lightship or two was still there when I was a kid, but much tattier.
Memory may fail me though - whenabouts are these from?

These are from early eighties, I went to School up that way in the seveties and the earliest big ship I remember was HMS VOLAGE and the sub conning tower in the first load of pictures when it still was a whole sub! But I didnt have a camera back then.

Up at the Fort site as I type they have a First World War sub conning tower rusting away along with some other bits ready to go inside. There is also a small guage railway that Mr Pounds has installed running round part of the Fort. The Fort is currently a business park but I had heard plans that Mr Pounds was going to open it up for the general public to look round hence displaying the old trucks etc.

I can remember being a passenger in an aircraft that flew over it about 30 or so years ago. There were certainly a number of sub hulls around he place.
