Thanks to you all, for the tips and info given.

I have had a good look at the Weather Ships web site. I am impressed with the layout and content. I saw the photos mentioned of Dougie. Note: The Dimple Bottle 'Ship in a Bottle',I remember many years ago a similar or the one depicted at my Mum's house. My Mum was Dougie/Wally Walsh's Sister, Kathleen. She past on this year at the ripe old age of 92.

    Alan,
After looking at the (Memorabilia Pages) - thanks again Tim, good link - the discharge papers are not traditional Merchant Navy so again I cannot be sure if the records are held in the MN organisation. There are two things you can do. Firstly, take a punt by looking at the files suggested which are held at the National Archives in Kew - BT 382/1873 or if served beyond the 1960's here BT 382/3011. Both of those files would be best obtained by visit to Kew.
The other thing you could do would be to contact the Maritime & Coastguard Agency Contact Us
All seamen had to be registered and would hold a discharge book and it may be worth asking them about the Weather Ships and the crew records. Also remember the advice from Robert-w regarding Met Office and Air Ministry.
Hope you get lucky and if you get his military record and any other records and you have questions please feel free to ask on here we will help if we can.

    Regards
    Hugh

Hi Alan. I am Doug's grandson, and I hold his papers. I would be happy to get scanned copies to you. Let me know the most convenient way for me to do that.
