    Dear all,

I am trying to verify some intelligence that was sent from behind enemy linies in the province of Overijssel (in eastern) Holland during October/November 1944.

According to a Jedburgh team, there were 8.000 - 10.000 Germans parachute troops stationed at Enter [a place in Twente, in the Overijssel province] at the end of October 1944.

In addition, at the end of October 1944, there was a German parachute division stationed at the river IJssel. There were 60.000 German troops available at that time for defending the positions at the IJssel, according to this team.

In november 1944, 60.000 Germans troops arrived in Twente en Achterhoek (in eastern Holland), based on this Jedburgh intelligence.

Can anyone here shed some light on the reliability of this data?

    Thanks and regards,

    JJHH

JJHH - These were almost certain the 3rd and 6th Fallschirmjäger Divisions, which at the time were being reorganised and refitted in eastern Holland.

Thanks for the reply! Do you have any sources that back this up?

I'm quite certain abot the 3rd FJDiv which was rested and refitted in Twente. If you Google you will find the info.

Will look after some more info on the 6th FJ Div, the 2nd FJ Div also might have been somewhere around. Will be back with you.

Can't find anything on Google. Looking forward to your info.

in the book "the lions of carentan, the history of fj regiment 6" there is a chapter dedicated to the fighting in holland..on 8th september 1944 they arrived in tilburg,
and where soon deployed to fight near beeringen and geel, they also fought near postel, reusel, bladel, lommel, valkenswaard, boxtel, woensdrecht, schijndel and a few more as i can recall..

i can give you the dates when the fighting took place if youre intrested,i believe a month of fighting later they were redeployed to the eiffel region..(this is only about fj regiment 6)

    cheers,

Great! Thank you guys. Really helpful.

By the way, I came across this website: 3. Fallschirm-Jäger-Division

The info on that website also confirms that large sections of the 3. FJD were at Oldenzaal.

Can someone also confirm this with literature?

Pick out the units or Armee Korps you are looking for and in a lot of the accounts are maps with details information...

Remind that some files are large so yoy have to wait a minute or two before you see anything and just copy it and open it after...

The NIOD has in their archives documentation on the 6. Fallschirmjäger-Division in the Netherlands 1944/1945. ARCHIVE NUMBERS 971- 972 they are from the Kommandierender General und Befehlshaber im Luftgau Holland

    They also have:

    975

Stukken betreffende de controle en vernietiging van gegevens door het 15./Fallschirmjäger-Regiment 18, 1944-1945.

    Wilco,
Do you have any idea if you can make pictures with a digital camera in the NIOD?
My last impression of the NIOD goes back a long time, i am now in my late thirties but at that moment i still had my OV card to travel with.
The NIOD has some nice resistance intel documents and some German archives but i need to ask permission from the board if the NIOD to see them.
Do you think this is obtainable easily?

All archive documents can be asked for to read just as the others. Any researcher can do so. There is no restriction to these documents.

    Alvast bedankt!
