In my youth poppies were plastic free. Wire and paper. Didn't need a pin, the wire was so sharp it took care of that; you could poke 'em through any pullovers, coats, jumpers, jackets. And yourself if you weren't careful.

Recyclable before recycling was a thing, but would be deemed "not safe" today I guess.

    Kind regards, always,

    Jim.

The stick on ones with no stems are useless without a pin or something to secure them, hope they don't make a paper version of them.

On 17th of this month I was invited to attend the 70th anniversary service of the unveiling of the Air Forces Memorial, Runnymede by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

That evening I had a call from the BBC to ask If I would agree to be filmed and interviewed on the next day re my connection to the memorial, I was there at the original unveiling in 1953 as a boy of 11 and again I attended the 50th anniversary in 2003.

To cut a long story short, my interview will be broadcast on the BBC1 program "Songs Of Praise" on Remembrance Sunday 12th November. Well edited I hope :)

If anyone would like to watch and pass comments I would appreciate it.

High Flight by John Gillespie Magee

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, – and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air…

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew –
And, while with silent, lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Thank you all for your remarks, I too found it a vey emotional experience. There was much more but I expect it was time restricted.
The actual interview / film took over an hour. The film crew were very thoughtful.
