Discussion in 'WW2 Militaria' started by Sharon Picardo, Aug 18, 2020.

  1. Hi All,

I have a pocket watch which i believe to be second world war. Please see attached photo. I know that the G.S.T.P General Service Trade Pattern. But i'm not sure of the other serial number? J5462.

Can anyone help shed some light on this for me?

    Thank you

Well I guess Morrisc8 has nailed it. I have a general question - why pocket watches? Mens' wrist watches seem to have evolved from the practice of officers in the South African war putting ladies' brooch style watches on a wrist strap. WW1 saw the widespread use of military wrist watches by all sides. Issuing pocket watches in WW2 seems to be a retrograde step. If they were stop watches to coordinate artillery barrages etc I could understand.
