    Hi all,

next week I will be interviewing a WW2 veteran who won the MC in North Africa. I need the 564 Field Company RE 5 Corps war diary covering landing in Algeria to Taranto all the way up to Austria.

I already have Packenham's volume IX History of Corps of Royal Engineers, but I really need volume VIII covering North Africa.

I only found out this veteran was alive last week and he has never recorded his experiences before. Any help with the war diary and Packenham?

    Please can anyone help?

I would really appreciate this so I can construct the right questions.

It is ultimately for an exhibition to be held next year. I have been carrying out a project researching former alumni of Emanuel School In Battersea in both world wars. I have done this in a voluntary capacity so very much rely on others interested in this magnificent generation who sacrificed so much.

    Thank you in advance.

    Daniel.

I might be able to get Volume VIII but it will take a couple of weeks.

Using the advanced search field in the web site 'britishnewspaperarchive" if you enter "royal engineers" and "africa" between 1940-1949 there are 400+ articles to read, but you'll need to subscribe to view this amount.

If you also add AND "MC" to the advanced search option, it refines the number of articles for the same period to 126 news articles. Might be worth a shot if you are stuck for time. Or try searching the site using the gentlemans name. You might get lucky.
