    So soon after obtaining a copy of Grandad1's record I have managed to gain Grandad2's service record.

    I never got to meet Walter,smoking cutting his life short.

    On first look I can't make out much at all,if any of you very knowledgeable forum members could get me started I would be most grateful:)

    Sorry Fella,

    Not my field but l am sure there are many here who can help.

    The records are really good but what do you know, from your relatives, etc? Post as much as you can and we can then help you with the rest.

    Regards,

    Nick

    Hi Busta,

    Looks to me like RA 156 HAA Battery HQ Provost Company on discharge.

    If you post the date he joined and finished his service I'll post up the War Diary ref's for the files at TNA for you.

    Hello busta,

    He was 39 years old - nearly 40 - when enlisted on 21 August 1941; and as a Gunner in Heavy Anti-Aircraft, Royal Artillery. He served in the UK from that date, mainly Bradford and Birmingham, until demob and the 'Y' List on 27 October 1945, as a Bomardier. He was excused further service on attaining 45 years of age.

    His service appears to be:

    1) 239 AA 'Z' Bty - Training Depot from 21 August 1941;
    2) 185 AA 'Z' Bty - 10AA 'Z' Regiment from 17 September 1941;
    3) 223 (M) 'Z' AA Bty - 10AA 'Z' Regiment from 24 July 1943; this was redesignated as 10AA Area (M) Regiment from 15 April 1944;
    4) E Bty Depot - 10AA Area on 28 March 1945;
    5) CMP - from 29 March 1945 - I think this is a 'Military Police' posting;
    6) 156 HQ Provost Company from 29 May 1945; and
    7) 'Y' List from 27 October 1945.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,

    Steve.

    Think Tom had part of it right: Shrivingham Park seems to be the place and his rank was Gunner (Gnr).
