If the above is correct then he married Hilda H Nicholls 1939 at St Mary Magdalene's, Winton, Salford.

Two names listed for McQueeney in the 1933 directory for that area.
One of them could be his father, but you would need his birth or wedding certificate to confirm

    James McQueeney
    Grocers assistant
    34 Rockley street, Pendleton

    Francis McQueeney
    Maker-up
    11 Chalfont street, Salford

Great job gentlemen! The name Hilda is in his paybook, so we've got the right William McQueeney!
Thank you very much so far!

Now I would like to go on, searching family perhaps and ofcourse info on his military career.
According to his medals he saw some action.

Any suggestions about how to go on and help are welcome.
    Thanks again!

His Army number 2126045 i think indicates he started his Army career in the Royal Engineers.

I am not that well versed with what information is included in a Pay book, but does it list any units he was with.

Also does it state what religion he was? C of E, RC, etc?

If he was RC then likely his burial details will be kept with the local (Salford) church authorities and they charge about £15 per search.

If he was C of E or Non-comfomist, his details will be in the records of the Salford City Council, and they also charge about £15 per record.

I've checked burials in cemeteries covered by Manchester City Council (which is free to search) and can't find him on there.

There is a good chance he may be of Irish descent

Theo - if you wish I could do some more research on Ancestry.co.uk for his family - no guarantees though that I would find anything

    Hello dick (?),
If you want to do that, it would be very kind of you. As i wrote, everything is welcome.
Now he is just a name in a paybook, perhaps family or friends can tell me more about this man.
Nothing to find about his war period? Couldn't find a unit in his paybook, what info thats in it could be of any use?

    Hi Theo,

    Just TD will do

I have asked the question on the Ancestry site for others with family trees containing the same info on his parents, so we will see what comes back.

Re his military info, as Clanky Pencil says - "His Army number 2126045 i think indicates he started his Army career in the Royal Engineers" Army Block Numbers Royal Engineers 1842001 - 2303000 you could apply for his records as a general enquirer (https://www.gov.uk/requests-for-personal-data-and-service-records#how-to-apply-for-service-personnel-records)

    TD

    edited to add:
Have sent 4 emails via Ancestry.co.uk to other members with high possibility of family relationships to William

As he was RC, you could make an enquiry through below email address, as i think most RC burial records for the area are kept at the below cemetery. From the burial details you may be able to find more info about his family, or at least a location and from that i should be able to get you a grave photo.

If they haven't got any details they should be able to point you in the right direction, but may want to still charge you £15 for the privilege.

    St Joseph's Cemetery
    Moston Lane,
    Moston,
    Manchester,
    M40 9QL.
    Telephone: 0161 681 1582 Email: cemeteries@salforddiocese.org

You could also try posting your query in the Salford Cemeteries section on Rootschat.
I have also posed your query on the Manchester & Salford Family History Forum which is where all the info i've posted was supplied from.

Any chance you can scan the paybook and post it up on here?

If there are no units recorded on his paybook then looking at his medals, age and being in the engineers, i wouldn't be surprised if he was in a Bomb Disposal Unit, spending most of his time in the UK before moving to mainland europe. This is just a pure guess on my part and you would really need to get a copy of his service records to find out.

    Hi Theo,

    Progress Report

I have had one response from a family tree on Ancestry, but I need them to confirm to me that this guy is a part of their family tree, because at present he does not appear on it .

    Hi Theo,

I had a PM today on Ancestry from the one contact family tree he might be in. The major problem is that he was born in May 1911, and the census was taken in April 1911 - this being the latest free online accessible UK census, I don't think we want to wait until 2021 to answer this question  ;) . Therefore it is difficult to know for my contact whether or not William is in fact a member of their family tree, unless a living relative remembers him. I have now given them the details from above of what we believe to be his brothers (names and address's) plus his details on address (from your post #1) for them to look into and get back to me.
Still hoping for a good result.

    Happy New Year
