    Hello

My Father (Anthony John Godfrey) was in 76 Squadron as a flight engineer on Halifaxes and in October 1945 he went to India onDakotas. It looks like he returned in 1947. Can anyone please decipher the attached part of dad's form 543.

    Thanks in advance. :)

It looks like that at the end of the war he went to a training course (S of AT / AI ā€“ School of Air ??)

From there to 5PDC / 1PDC (Personnel Despatch Centre) to be processed for discharge or transfer.

Posted to India as part of ACSEA (Air Command South-East Asia) employed at 141RSU (Repair & Salvage Unit) ā€“ ACSEA retitled as India Command

    Posted to 385MU / 302MU / 325MU (Maintenance Units)

Discharged in 1947 back in the UK at 101 PDC at " Warton"

If Iā€™m reading it correctly (on the far right of the form) in July 1945 he was re-mustered & reverted in rank from Sergeant Flight Engineer to AC1 Clerk Equipment Accounting (possibly his rank / trade before getting his half-wing). He then made it back to Flight Engineer status in July 1946

According to the book "Bloody Eleventh" vol lll by W.J.P.Aggett, the 1st Devons moved from Burma to India by air on the 4/5th May 1945, (stationed at Visapur 10 miles from Poona). Dec 13th the Battalion (now part of 6th Brigade, 2nd Division) moved to Bombay. Dec 22nd disembarked at Singapore and moved by relay to Kluang and deployed for internal security duties.

May 14th 1946 stabilized the mutiny of a Para battalion, arrest of ring leaders and constr of camp. July 1946 returned to Singapore (Selarang Barracks) to guard Japanese war criminals.

They didn't return to the UK until Dec18th 1950.

    Hopes this helps
