    Thank you :)

Geoffrey J Wright is not James Nelson's son.... so that branch is a no go.... So frustrating :)

Hi all, is anyone about - i have an update of sorts and would love some advice!! my only advise has been "you need a death certificate to get service records" .... so that leaves me stuck :(

i spoke to someone at the Airborne Recce place who said they believed that the beret was Black and not Maroon therefor Armoured.

Sooooo... i have spoke to a lady and after paying a fee she has managed to get me 2 cards.....

    here is her reply:
    Hi Jen,

I’ve not found an exact match for a ‘Jim Wright’ or a ‘James Nelson Wright’ but I’ve found 2 cards that may be worth you having a look at to see if any of the information may tally with what you have already found. I’ve attached scans of the cards.

There is a ‘James Wright’ (2757661) who served with The Black Watch from 19th November 1939 to 22nd January 1941, when he was transferred to the 4th Reconnaissance Regiment, then transferred to the 6th Reconnaissance Regiment on 5th July 1941.

There is a ‘Nelson James Wright’ (the first names are switched) (3191992). He served with the 116th Regiment Royal Armoured Corps from 15th September 1939 and was then transferred to the 9th Gordon Highlanders on 24th July 1942, then transferred on 23rd June 1943 to the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders.

There were lots of just ‘J. Wright’ cards too but these were too numerous and do not have enough information on to really make use of, especially as no dates of birth are listed on the cards, only the army number.

Hope this information can help in some way,

    Many thanks,

    - She also sent me the cards.

Is there anyone who could suggest a way to even get these guys dates of birth?!? Then i can make mirror tree's and possibly try to find them that way......i am so excited but also nervous because i feel this is my last shot......

Oh thank you so much. That rules him out as he would have been too young to of had a child in 1932

Nelson/James wright is my last resort.

Jeez, plot twist! He’s from Whitley bay, (the James wright who died) that’s about 5 minutes away from our house.

We could not see the end of the letter that you upload in post #3, did he actually sign it Jim? I ask because on another website where you are making enquiries you state – “I am trying to find J Wright (possibly James, Jim)”. To clarify do you definitely know it is Jim/James or could it be Jack, John, Joseph, Joe, etc etc?

A different direction is there any possibility that the photo could be Alice’s husband Richard Bond?
Elsewhere you have posted a group photo with men standing behind seated ladies.

Do we know/assume that the gent behind Alice is her husband Richard? Just thinking out loud!

With the photos you posted is the detail of his left shoulder any clearer in the original photo? Can you read the badge with a magnifying glass?

Is there any chance of getting a really detailed close up of his left arm? If you have a digital camera you can sometimes get a clearer image by taking a photo rather than scanning. If not scan at the highest resolution possible and crop the image so that it can be posted here.

HI Tony, I’ll start from the beginning of your post....

He signs it Jim, I just haven’t put all of the letters online as some are quite personal (although nothing in them give any further clues)

The picture - it Is of Alice yes but that’s not Richard, they are all her siblings. ... the picture is 100% not her siblings, family or anyone that her family or friends knew. They were in envelopes with letters. One has “jim left 42” written in the back.

On his shoulder I know you can’t see too well on here because it’s a picture of a picture - but the badge at the top says reconnaissance and there is no other flashes etc I’ve also had recce people look and double check me, as well as the cap badge etc. There isn’t anything else that can be seen on the uniform to give clues on his branch. The buttons would be a good one but just not possible.

I’ll try again with the photos and see if I can see anything else, similarly I’ll try going through the letters to see what’s what

Is there any photographers stamp to perhaps identify where the photos were processed?
Sometimes there is an address which could tie to a certain place/time and perhaps person?
For example J Bloggs, Croydon, A Smith Whitley Bay or Sandy McPherson Edinburgh...
2 might fit, the other won't!
