    Hi Mahratta

    Trade badge is stoker mechanic

I have a list of everyone who was killed on HMS Mahratta.

Can you scan into the cap tally as that will tell you wether he was a new recruit (should have HMS Tally) or an old hand with an unofficial tally (HMS XXXXX)

    Hello James.
HMS Drake is on the cap.
Why do you have the list of sailors that died on HMS Mahratta.
do you have any family links.
What about the sailor that died in 1943, got his name.
My wife's grandfather David Lewis Morgan was Stoker 2nd class on this ship, he was 39 years old, but is listed as 37, must have lied about his age.

I have a database of officers and sailors who died in WW2 in RN RNVR RFR and RNR

if you need a look up just ask.

I'll see who died in '43 and post names and see if i have any more info about David Morgan.

I'll also do a bit of digging about HMS Drake, I think it may be a shore establishment which poss suggests he joined up pre war as all HO ratings were issued with HMS tallies.

Will be out tonight but will have alook thursday for you

HMS Drake was the shore establishment at devonport barracks. which ties in with HMS Mahratta as that was a devonport ship.

HMS Drake was called HMS Vivid but changedits name in 1934.

    I hope this helps

    Hello James.
Many thanks, do you know if the Devonport Barracks, would have any records there.
So I can put him in the short list of Stokers.

You can always try the historical records at portsmouth.

google the royal navy historical records, or it is on this sight somewhere.

You asked for the sailor who died in 1943.

He is the only sailor who served on HMS Mahratta who died in 1943.

was the info on your wifes grandfather helpful?
