Hello this is my 1st post, I am hoping that some one out there can help me with some research. I have a friend who’s Uncle lived in Barton near Cambridge, a plane crashed next to or very near his Uncles house. A few days later my friend visited his Uncle and also visited the crash site. As boys do he pick up a couple of .30 or .50 cal rounds his uncle made them safe and he has had them ever since.
He has always wondered about the crew who were killed in the crash. And as he see’s the rounds he picked up everyday, and it plays on his mind.
I don’t have much to go on as there was another plane crash very soon after the 1st one and from what I can gather the two have become linked into one crash in peoples minds.
These are the details I have been given.
Crashed 1943 Barton Cambridgeshire (plus or minus 1 year)
I understood that the plane was a Boston,(Douglas Havoc),but subsequently when I was a bit older it seems that no body could remember much about it and things became confused since a Wellington had crashed soon afterwards on the edge of the village. It's just something that has bugged me for years as I would like to know a bit more about it and the crew
It could have been a USAF Havoc or RAF Boston both the same plane ,but I think the Boston had .303 mg's.
Any info on either of the crashes would be very helpful But mainly the 1st one.
    Kind regards Warren Osborne.
