hi all, interesting to see that thomas turley is one of only two ww2 burials in villers bocage cemetery. anyone know of the why and wherefores of the pioneers in this area??
Given Turley's death being listed as March 3rd 1940, his death was most likely by accident. Aux Mil Pioneers were used at this time for Line of Communications work, base and depot works, stores handling etc. The VB grave location indicates that he worked in and around the Caen area, where BEF supplies of Petrol and Personnel/MT Stores and Leave were transitted after arrival from the ports at Arromanche and Cherbourg.
