    hello

i`m looking for information about my great uncle.

    Name: VICKERS, WILLIAM EWART
    Initials: W E
    Nationality: United Kingdom
    Rank: Private
    Regiment/Service: Pioneer Corps
    Age: 20
    Date of Death: 01/11/1946
    Service No: 14889255
Additional information: Son of Joseph Vaughan Vickers and L.ily Vickers, of Handbridge, Chester.
    Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
    Grave/Memorial Reference: Sec. D. Grave 829.
    Cemetery: CHESTER (BLACON) CEMETERY

would like to know in which Companies he served.

i do know that He was a serving soldier but had a malignant brain tumour and died in Winwick hospital lancashire (now a housing estate) from post operative collapse, shock of the operation. He might have been stationed near there when he took ill or the hospital may have been The hospital to have a brain operation at that time.

    any help greatfully appreciated.

    many thanks

Hi Sketch - If you haven't already got 'em apply for a copy of his service records. They will tell you the units he served with and when. You can then view those units war diaries at the National Archives.

    Cheers
