Pillbox etymology.

    I tend to type in the word i am seeking , as in pillboxes and if the word doesn't turn red, then that's good enough for me !

    No matter how you spell the word, we still bloody froze in them !!!!!!

    A part of Second World War history is up for auction

    An excellent example of a historic Second World War pillbox is to go under the hammer - freeze your bits off to your hearts content, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    'Pillar box' is fairly logical though, like pillbox, it would imply a cylindrical structure.
    Personally, I thought pillbox hailed from the Boer War but I'm probably wrong as that isn't discussed. Nor is the relevance of pillbox hats which were around long before 1915.
