    Hi All

Just wondering if someone can explain to me why certain Pill boxes are numbered and some are not ? ( I have attached picture )

    Thank you

Also if someone can identify what this may say .. I dont think it's related but any help would be appreciated ( 2nd picture attached )

    Hi,

I can’t actually make out the “number” on your first picture but I doubt it will be of WW2 vintage. Possibly an English Heritage or other conservancy organisation reference number?

The vandalised tree looks to have been “scored” by a knife with the letters A T A N K - presumably suggesting Anti Tank?

    Thank Steve
The pill box has a number 3 marked on top of the blue paint /
The carving makes sense as there was anti tank ditches in the field to the rear of this tree .

    Thanks again

My recollection is that many of the pillboxes were built by local contractors to the War Office via local / regional commands. PSG will know!
