    Guys,

Sometime ago l promised that l would scan in and copy a few photographs l had that were taken during the war in RAF POW camps, well here they are.

    http://kenfentonswar.com/prisoner-of-war-photographs/

I have posted them in a separate chapter for ease of reference so you do not need to read through my diatribe, research for which, seems never ending.

If anyone has any more of these photos, or you see them for sale, please let me know as l would love to add them to this collect.

I do have a few more to add so if interested, keep watching.

I will start to pick some names out shortly but Stan Parris and Johnny Fender stand out as the leaders of two rival bands, who practised long and hard and provided the music for the shows and of course, the noise to cover the sound of other activities.

Anyone recognise anyone? Just for clarity, there were no girls in the compounds.

    Regards,

    Nick

Fascinating - I wonder where they got the costumes from? Surely they couldn't have made them too.
No didn't recognise anyone - my Dad was in a dance band during the war (piano) but he wasn't a POW.

They did indeed make the costumes themselves and there would have been a tailors Dept., l think it was named after a London Tailors shop, within the camp to do this, with its main sideline being the making of escape outfits. They altered uniforms, made costumes from the linings of greatcoats or whatever else they could 'find', including the making of German uniforms.

Lots far more civilised than I imaged POW camps to be .
Without captions saying that they were taken a pow camp I'd never have guessed.

    Thanks Richard,

Yes, l have seen these. Spent too long of my life at Kew now so got them fairly well covered.

Need to get Stalag Luft 3 and 6 and Stalag 357 written up on my site now.

    Regards,
