    Hi Geoff

We have heard from PO Bazeley's nephew who knew nothing about Sgt Bull (whose grave is just one away from Bazeley), nor details of the accident. The nephew was at a conference in Addis in March this year and commandeered a driver to take him to the cemetery. He was the first family member to visit and was fulfilling a promise made in 1994 to a dying family member, to visit the grave one day on behalf of all the family. He spent over an hour there and said it was very emotional. As he was leaving, the driver made him go back and sign the visitors' book - hence the contact we could make. He has since contacted other family members and he has sent us some photos of PO Bazeley. The nephew and his family can't really believe all this has unfolded and are saying 'it is just so precious to them'.
Makes me feel a bit emotional myself to be a small part of it - led of course by your photo request. I just wish I could find a photo of Sgt Bull, but not really very likely I should think.

Anyway, thought you might find this update of interest

    Cheers
    Judy

    Hi Judy,

These interactions with family become really touching - Thank you for the information.

Maybe I should try a bit harder this week to see if I can uncover a photo. Would be nice to have photos for both of the crew.

    Cheers

    Geoff

    Hi Geoff

Yes, so true, the stories are often very touching. I so often get 'side tracked' by stories, but when I consider it, for me they are not sidetracks at all, but part of the reason I am doing what I am doing (along with Trevor of course). Most of what we have been doing is WW1 so hours and hours can be spent reading the records of the Australians we have remembered in our visits. In the case of Sgt Bull, a special interest has unfolded and we paid for his service record to be digitised but there was little further information really and no photograph. I have searched the Trove website and Coonamble newspapers but can't find anything.

If you are able to find a photo of Sgt Bull anywhere (I don't know where else to look) it will mean a lot to the family of the pilot.

I will send you photos of PO Bazeley.

    Cheers
    Judy

A section of the memorial garden at Metheringham 106 Squadron. Many of these plaques are dedicated here. I took these after attending the Waddington airshow of 2012.

    Hi Geoff,

I will be going to Malta this summer. I hope to visit the Malta Memorial, as there are quite a few 142 Squadron men commemorated on the memorial. I hope to get you the two Australians from the Malta Memorial you still need at the same time.

    Hi Pieter,

Not having visied the Malta Memorial section I find the are a few more than two. There are nine Australians from 142sq listed on the Malta Memorial however I have all of those.

These are Australians in the RAF and RNZAF that have turned up in my research. If you could oblige I would be most grateful.

    Cheers

    Geoff

    Hi Geoff,

I will add these to my list of 142 Squadron men. But does your list include the two men you mentioned in the 2nd post of this topic?

    Hi Peter,

As far as my database shows. These would be on different panels to those of the RAAF.

    Cheers

This memorial is in the village of Grand-Champ, 11 km NW of Vannes. It was unveiled on 8-11-1998. It says, Royal Air Force Bomber Command 142 Squadron. In memory of the crew of Wellington BJ768 which fell at Lesranigo on 8 November 1942. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve Pilot; Sgt Ronald Evison. Navigator P/O Douglas Bradshaw. Bomb Aimer Sgt Cyrill Hill. Royal Australian Air Force. Wireless Operator F/Sgt Claude Sautelle. Air Gunner F/Sgt Kenneth Pearce. They were shot down on their second operation, this was by flak from the airfield of Vannes-Meucon
This newspaper copy and three photographs were sent to me from a chap in France about 2002.
