Hello all I'm after, please, any photos of soldiers of 151 or 152 Ayrshire Yeomanry Regts RA. The photos showing cap badges please, as clearly as possible, as I'm doing a small project on the badges of the Ayrshire Yeomanry. Or if someone's relative served and they have their badge, a photo of that would be great also. Any help would be most welcome, and your time and help will be appreciated. Is this the correct place to post this also? Thanks all C
You might try to get your hands on the following history. I saw it a number of years back so I am not sure of the illustrations involved: Steel Brownlie, Major W. The history of the Ayrshire (Earl of Carrick’s Own) Yeomanry from its raising in the Eighteenth Century till 1964.London: Collins, 1964. Copies exist at Abebooks for a reasonable price: Major W Steel Brownlie, First Edition - AbeBooks
Thank you for your speedy reply! I have the book, thank you, badge pictures not very clear unfortunately. Thanks C
Again, thank you. I have a great deal of information, and I have a good Collection of AY badges, and the patterns worn. I'm after photos of them being worn by the two RA units please, just before, during and just after WW2 would be great, clearer the better. Thank you anyway
Not quite what your looking for, but images showing the shoulder titles, shame they have taken their caps off - these belonged to a 152nd lad. Have you seen the unit history of 152nd Field Regiment? I have a copy I can look out, it was published straight after the war and from memory doesn't have many photos
Great photos, thank you, it is indeed a good photo of the shoulder title, as you said, shame the caps are off. If you could dig the book out that would be appreciated, it's other ranks I'm after please, not Officers. Great photos, thank you again. C
Not the best images - there is a note in the book (again not cap badge but insignia related) about Lt Col Spedding taking command and almost causing a revolt when he order Regimental collar dogs and buttons to be switched to RA grenades and buttons
Very kind of you for getting the photos to me, thank you. A good shot of the collar badge being worn in the beret. Yes, I'm aware of that incident, a regular gunner CO going to a Yeomanry Regiment, Ha ha! Thank you again C
If a member has photos they don't wish to show on the thread, please PM me and I'll give you my email address if you wish to share. Thanks all again for your help and speedy replies! Much appreciated C
Sorry, this thread was moved, I had it in the wrong place. I think 151 is the most un-photographed RA unit of the War, I can literally find nothing, especially showing cap badges. I really hope someone can help. Thanks all C
Try finding stuff with 156th (Lanarkshire Yeomanry) they seem to be vying for the title Have you tried local papers? they quite often have photos with the notifications of casualties - or happier stories if decorated, brothers meeting overseas etc
Good idea with the papers, have to wait til I get back in the library, the newspaper archives site is free in there. Must be something to do with being Yeomanry Gunners making them camera shy! Ha ha. I'll see if there's anything online newspaper wise. Cheers C
There is a history of the 151st from just post war if anyone has a copy they can check for photos - I see one online but £50 is a bit much for me, but maybe not bad for a unit history from the time
Apologies for the digression, but do you mean 155th (rather than 156th) Lanarkshire Yeomanry?.....or were there two 155/156 LYs? Edit: oops. Just discovered there were indeed two Lanarkshire Yeomanry Regiments, the 155th and 156th. Note: reason for original question is that my Uncle George was with the 155th in Singapore and POW in Formosa.
Yea, I've seen that, I have no idea of the contents though, and as you said, £50 is a bit much. I wonder if anyone has a copy? And wouldn't mind seeing what photos are in it please. Cheers again AB64
Yup, 2 Field Regiments from the Lanarkshire Yeomanry but while I've read and seen a few bits about 155th, 156th seems not to show up in photos or memoires - I saw one nice photos with insignia at a 50th anniversary of VE day display in the local library but I can't remember what it showed, it was a surprising image (I half remember a mermaid of Warsaw, but could be wrong).
Thank you Bruneval for you time in finding and sending these pictures to me,it's much appreciated. Two good photos of the Officers service dress, showing collar badges, nice. I am, however, after photos of Other ranks wearing cap badges please. But thank you so much for your efforts, not in vain, two good photos for a later project. Cheers C
C, Not a drama. Just found two more photos, although not wearing Ayrshire Yeomanry Cap badges, but nevertheless they were ORs in the said unit. Regards Bruneval
