I know this is earlier than ww2 but could anybody provide a clue to which unit is boarding a train in Kent. The railway vehicles are London Chatham Dover Railway, probably circa 1900 and the troops are definitively not Australian. My best guess is TA Hussars, but I invite your comments, thanks.
Moved this to pre-war. They are Yeomanry (Territorial cavalry). Date wise between 1900 and 1908 I would say. It's not Canterbury (where I live); could be East Kent Yeomanry?
From what I've read, the latest date that Yeomanry (Territorial cavalry) units had horses was early 1940. The last horses were taken away in order to convert these units to more modern functions. The photo is definitely early 1900. The clothing worn by the civilians is a dead giveaway.
Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles? EKY main Scroll down left hand page to Royal East Kent Mounted Rifles 1902, the click on KSY:1970-10. The uniform in the picture is quite similar.
Looking at your photo, I am pretty sure it is Faversham. The large building you can see in the photo is very similar/the same as the one close to the track like that at Faversham. The follow site states that there was a Faversham troop of the East Kent Yeomanry: http://www.kentfallen.com/PDF%20REPORTS/WEST%20KENT%20YOEMANRY%20UNITS.pdf
Goodness, you guys are just so good. I do hope that your knowledge is being recorded for historical prosperity. Thanks again.
Looking at Faversham station pics. i think i can see the big house in the background. Faversham's History Faversham see this one Faversham what do you think?
