I hope that it doesn't result in a further migration to the superficial and unsearchable Arse-about-facebook where uploading a photo is oh-so easy.

PB have long had a policy of blocking the images of those whose photos were looked at too often until a new month came round.

By the way, Adam, I've never paid PB for anything.

    Didn't think so.
My guess is very low use chaps aren't quite getting hammered the same.

Occurs everyone can hotlink from the free 15gig of storage that comes with a Gmail account (And HQ images don't count towards the total. Theoretically unlimited).
Nothing may last forever, but a good chance Google will last longer than most.

Images from The Scottish War Graves Project have also (some members have used other hosts) been affected by Photobucket. I've lost WW2 Guards images posted for Dbf's threads. I've saved images for D I've taken from Normandy & Holland and can repost over time.

You can add "~original" to the end of the Photo-F-ing-Bucket image link and it'll show again, e.g.:

    My post here:

I clicked on Edit, then on the (broken) picture and see the image link is :

    http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o624/ZeppelinAce/Miscellaneous/Legend_zps3ghgrssm.jpg

So, I just added "~original" to the end (without the quotes):

    http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o624/ZeppelinAce/Miscellaneous/Legend_zps3ghgrssm.jpg~original

Then I clicked on Insert, then Save Changes

    Job done...

    Hope this helps.

Simon, that is bizarre! Did Photobucket add that to accommodate the complaints everyone has made?

Ah Photobucket have caught up with the `Italy Break` thread I highlighted as being untouched it now shows the dreaded `ransom` image ..however if you right click on that and `open in new window` you can see the original image .

    Superb.

Though... I fear that might be a temporary fix as it's apparently a command which requests the original pre-compression pre-resize image from PB, and as it seems to be taking them time to sweep billions of images, they'll quite possibly get there eventually.

Yep, mine have gone. I have the impression that until someone views a third party hosted image, they don't actually know about it.

Oh well, B*ll*cks to them. I'll find something different. I'm certainly not going to give in to their mafia practices. I hope that they're bankrupt within the month.

Fixed the Pith thread and a third of the way through Name That Vehicle.

It's a mess for many reasons, from broken links to that quote thing, but I still use it loads to find a pic of a particular vehicle.
Best damned 'Name it thread on the web.

I don't think so, I saw this on a modelling website and it had something to do with it using a direct tag rather than an image tag.

A clever system admin could probably knock up a script to add the "~original" to the end of each link, but I admit I wouldn't like to try it myself to be honest.

And I fear it may only be a temporary solution, might be worth grabbing what you can now before PB try their next trick...

I'm getting in a right state over this. I've tried replacing my images....but Imgur is as confusing as hell and it will take forever and I seem incapable of using the forum hosting system to replace images in the correct place on an existing post. Could someone perhaps set out in simple terms, step by step, just how we can replace the dead photobucket links with forum hosted images ?

    What works for me.
There are variations, but this is the core dreary process I'm finding stops insanity on more pic heavy threads:

All photos poured into one folder.
Downloaded from photobucket (slow & crap process, but retains filenames of stuff I've hosted from there. Worked best for me on Chrome.)

    • Edit
    • 'More options' (or mouse-wheel click on edit - gets you the same place in one click.)
    • Switch view to BBcode (little spanner icon, top right)
    BBcodeicon.JPG

    • Note Image name on any photobucket images:
      highlight.JPG

    • Hit 'Upload a file'
    • Navigate to folder of images - start typing Filename into box and it'll auto-complete the right one - click it then 'open'.
    • File will upload to list. If multiples they'll upload in the right order.
    • Switch back to Rich Text (Bottom left)
    rich text.JPG
    • Delete each Ransom image and replace with Thumbnail or Full image.
    • Save.

If it's just one image, you can avoid all the BBcode/Rich Text crap by just clicking on the ransom note in edit, getting the image name from the pop-up and uploading.

      Capture.JPG

No idea if that helps, Rich.
Tedious, and people find their own ways of doing this file entry sort of thing.

It would be nice to do all this from a host like Google images with the Camera/embed icon, what with this place really suffering under the weight of images (nearly 7GB in the gallery alone - god knows how many on the forums), but I can't help feeling grabbing the images with right names from Photobucket is the priority.
(The names are probably the same as those originals people should already have stored somewhere, but downloading from PB gives small file sizes and everything in one folder)

The problem I'm having with the forum system is that all the images end up underneath. I don't seem to be able to reposition them within the text. It worked for me once and then after that that the cursor just kept disappearing and I couldn't copy the image to do anything with it.

    Odd.
Should just be a question of place cursor, then hit the thumbnail or full size button next to the uploaded pics.

Needs to be in rich text/normal mode - doesn't work on the yellow background bbcode mode. F knows why.
Maybe flush cookies for here. Sometimes sorts such cursor things.

    These buttons:

Then ones that haven't been inserted will indeed appear below the post:

Ah, I'd been on bb in order to see what I was replacing. I'm having slightly better luck with Imgur now and have replaced six (yes, six !) images in the last hour ! Finding things on PB is not helped by the fact that although I had separate albums for each forum, it always defaulted to 'my bucket' so I linked lots from the wrong place (and quite often several times apparently).

If Imgur goes tits-up then I might give up on the internet. I'm only really here for the forums.

I'm gonna try using Google photos for hosting/embed.
Most of my pics automatically back up onto it anyway with unlimited storage.

Go to the photos page associated with Google account:
    https://photos.google.com/?pageId=none

Open & then right-click pic, 'copy link location' and embed via 'Image' button here:

Even uses some clever-bollocks AI to auto sort images into albums.

    Aha,
That is the Armstrong Whitworth 'Light Artillery Transporter' with 13pdr and dapper gent. One-off from 1924 or 26.
It's in Fletcher'a 'Moving The Guns', but I hadn't seen that pic until @ThinkDefence posted it on Twitter.
