What do you European folks make of the problems in France right now? Is it simply another problem of "let them eat cake" or is it that the large volume of integration of Muslims has come home to roost? Anyone want to post their view? Is France going to survive this on its own?
Given the various news reports, it woul;d seem that the undelying trend is a protest against the institutionalised racism within the French establishment. The immigrants are being treated as second class citizens.
Of course France will survive. Within a week to ten days, the rioting will have run out of steam and things will quieten down, but the underlying issues will remain. These are not immigrants, by the way, but the sons of immigrants, French citizens themselves and born in France. I say sons, because their sisters have not been involved in the protests and seem far readier to study hard and work at getting good jobs. The issues are very complex and it would be difficult to discuss them on the board and stay within the guidelines on politics

What's going on there? I know high gas taxes have something to do with it but all the articles I read talk mostly about low wages. Are working people setting cars on fire and looting stores?
