Not the best of photographs I know ! A friend made this for me in 1985. 352nd Fighter Squadron, 353rd Fighter Group. Raydon, Suffolk 1944.
I did a google search and found a three view drawing of this plane. The numbers are "reversed" as in the model. I find that odd, as surely it would confuse the blokes on the ground.
The workmate who made this for me is a Perfectionist on these things so I had no doubt that it would be correct. But having said that ! that's the first time I've really noticed it ! after all these years of looking at it, though it is always in the same position as in the third photograph, also the fourth under it's perspex cover but sat within my bookcase. Many thanks Bob for pointing that out to me. When I can find them I'll post-up a couple of drawings that the same chap also done.
There's no getting away from the act that it's a beautiful aeroplane. In fact I was a bit annoyed that I had to build the earlier one, a bit of an ugly duckling.
Many thanks for all your kind comments, it really is a good-looking aeroplane, made better by the bubble canopy. I did request at the time for the flaps to be lowered, the wheel doors to be 'Bled down' and the canopy to be open.
The only mistake this Perfect Model-Maker made was the correct County. I changed this as soon as I got it home. Though the code letter's, I - SX were quite suitable for Essex....SX. Thanks again.
