The Sherman was knocked on October 4, 1944. It received two 75mm hits the side and an 88mm to the turret, fired by a Luftwaffe battalion at Hattert Castle north-east of he village. All the crew were killed.

This is the description alongside the damaged Sherman. A bit out of focus but just about readable.

I definitely missed seeing it inside. This photo was taken when it was outside back in 2005.

Found this about the Humber outside:

"This specific vehicle was part of the 3rd reconnaissance regiment Royal Northumberland Fusiliers of the 3rd Infantry Division. It ran over a mine during a reconnaissance mission in Vierlingsbeek. The commander was killed, two other crewmen were badly wounded."

From "Operation Aintree, The Battle for Overloon & Venray" (Giesbers & Dinnissen).

The Humber, pictured outside, and said to still be outside in 2014,is indeed a Humber Light Reconnaissance Car, though exactly which Mark is hard to say given the amount of parts missing. The vehicle shown inside with the caption 'Humber inside' is a GMC Otter Light Reconnaissance Car, made in Canada.

Details apart, when I last visited Overloon, my thoughts were that it has the finest collection of US vehicles in Europe - as well as a number of vehicles from other nations. The one I missed was the Valentine Bridgelayer which was said to be in the workshops when I was there. At least it was not rusting outside as it was when I first saw it.

The museum has had another revamp. A large section is now devoted to explain the war in the Netherlands, which is an excellent addition. But... although mannequins in vehicles are still there, all others from the diorama’s have been removed and are now displayed in a separate room. The only display left is the Arnhem one. The created space is used to park vehicles closer together.
