I wondered whether anyone else watched this last night? I thought it was very good. Tough viewing in parts. It is available on IPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04fh2r1/our-war-goodbye-afghanistan
Noticed it on iplayer and meant to watch it. Thanks for reminder, I'll be trying to find time for that.

Hi Bernard, It's a shame you aren't able to watch it over there. I found a few short clips from the programme on You Tube, hopefully it will let you watch these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qwzg448xR70 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2iDGhOe250&list=UUcjoLhqu3nyOFmdqF17LeBQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGXXysm79Xc&list=UUcjoLhqu3nyOFmdqF17LeBQ&index=6
Didn't see the TV programme. However, what will stay in my memory of our time in Afghanistan is my overwhelming pride in seeing how splendidly, bravely and courageously sections of some 15 men or so were deployed in isolated groups carried out their duties under superb down-to-earth leadership by young officers. Not many senior officers in sight! So different from the 'structured deployment' which was my experience during the Second World War. Surely, historians will write this was the 'war' in which junior leadership was to the forefront in the battle and to them and their men must go the credit for our achievements in Afghanistan. I would have been proud to have been one of them . . . Joe Brown.
Just watched the program tonight. I cannot help but feel pride for those mostly very young men and what they achieved and went through every single day. Watching them makes me feel that I have done very little in life and that they deserve so much more than they receive in terms of both renumeration and recognition. Sobering and humbling.
Just finished watching the programme. Difficult viewing at times, typical understatement employed, very much worth an hour and a half of our time.
Whilst on the subject an equally fascinating program was aired on Sunday the 7th December titled "Dismantling Camp Bastion" It shows the immense scale of activities over the past 8 years and, as the title implies, shows in detail how they literally broke the camp into pieces rather than leave anything behind for the enemy. Just amazing ! Ron
I thought it was an excellent programme and youre right thry didnt leave much . I liked it when the ana leader was told that wed be leaving the incinerator s and what about the radar next to them he asked . Oh we are taking that back home said the british soldier.
