I have been on Facebook making enquiries and someone recommended WW2 Forum, even though my enquiry is regarding WWI. This is my relatives as from in 1901 Census: John A was my grandfather. William(his brother) is here age 20, census transcription details for: 28, Hullard Street, Stretford. I do know Harry died in WWI at the Battle of the Somme. Both William and John Alfred we of an age were they would enlist, but I've never been able to find a service record for them. Any help that anyone can give would be grately appreciated. I've had a look on Ancestry etc but can't find anything definate. I would try posting your query on the 'Manchester & Salford Family History Forum'. Link Below http://manchesterfamilyhist.proboards.com/ There are people on there that have access to things like absent voters registers etc which may provide you with more info or further avenues to explore. Cheers
John Alfred Ormrod shows up on the 1911 census at 103 Manchester Rd Chorlton cum Hardy. John Alfred Ormrod 29 Pollie Ormrod 27 Leonard Ormrod 7 Alice Ormrod 3 Ideally, you need to check the absent voters register for Chorlton- cum- Hardy to see if he is/isn't on it. If he's on it then likely he was away on Service John Alfred Ormrod & Polie/Polly are both buried in the same grave in Southern cemetery in Manchester, Non Conformist section, grave number: L-1493. The rest of the family (minus William) are residing at 19 Stamford St Old Trafford on the 1911 Census John Ormrod 60 Head Alice Ann Ormrod 56 Wife Gertrude Ormrod 27 Daughter Clara Ormrod 25 Daughter Alice Ormrod 22 Daughter Nellie Ormrod 19 Daughter Harry Ormrod 16 Son Hope this helps EDIT: The absent voters registers can be viewed at Manchester Central Library AFAIK, but i still think it is still closed for refurbishment, and reopens in the new year.
