Orgins of the British Army Beret

    I thought I'd post this interesting ditty up from 'British Army Uniforms and Insignia of World War Two' as there was/is a bit of a discussion regarding Royal Signals Berets during WW2 which can be found here :

    Drew, my apologies for ignoring the Beret aspect of this thread...

    ...but are those Vickers "K" Guns on the turrets of the Churchill MkIs??? :mellow:

    Or the strange round drum Hi-capacity magazine for the Bren Gun???

    I was privileged to wear two different types of beret during my service.

    1. The Royal Artillery
    2. The Royal Armoured Corps

    Is that RA one a General Service Cap rather than a Beret?

    If you are talking about correct Army nomenclature then I'm sure that you're right.

    I've never given the matter a lot of thought, just considered the RA was brown, the RAC was black.
