I have an RE sent with his Company to Cullompton in Devon to erect Nissen Huts at an Ordnance Sub-Depot at Cullompton. Can any tell me more about the Sub-Depot particularly its actual location.

Internet search on the subject produces a couple of results which suggest there was an 8th Corps reception and reinforcement camp and RE initial training camp at Cullompton.

    Location 50.859222,-3.385948

The Company's War Diary gives the location of the Sub-Depot as '3 miles west of Cullompton' at Map Reference T493286.

Can anyone help with this map location please?

Many thanks Richard very kind of you.

I have just noticed that the Diary is not consistent with the map reference - would you mind looking at T492286?

    Thanks

    Dave

Historic Steve Researching 21 Army Group/BAOR post VE day

    Go to The "Coordinates Translator"
    1. British Cassini Grid then 2. VT493286

This system (learnt thanks a forum member) has proved excellent in locating units post VE day in Germany from War Diaries...but there are errors!

    Hope this helps

Looks to me, it's 3 miles, East of Cullompton.
Guess Post Cross business park, was the camp.
Kentisbeare, ROC post was in the same area.

The second grid reference (T492286) is 1/10 of a grid square (or 100 metres) to the west of the first. This puts it on the other side of the road to the woods which, as RCG says, is now the location of Post Cross Business Park.

See Heritage Gateway, Military Complex North of Post Cross.
