Thought this might interest a few people. Standing order given by Motor Transport officer of 5th Camerons.
26th October 1944, 5th Camerons advanced towards Vught, Holland.

That's as bad as the instructions for the first Grant Tanks which were issued with radial engines - in order to prevent an Hydrostatic lock which buggered up the engine and was a very big no no - in order to get the oil circulating - the engine had to be hand cranked as the oil had accumulated in the lower cylinders - now it was always a habit in quiet times to shut off the engine in order to save petrol - then the sneaky enemy would creep up and one had to get outside to crank up the engine - yeah right.....so lots of engine problems - and spud peeling...loss of pay etc ....
    Cheers
    cheers
