Sorry if this is posted in the wrong place, new here! I'm looking for the ORBs for 151 Squadron. I have downloaded a few that report some of my father's expolits, but would like to get the rest, but 189 docs at £3.36 each is expensive! I've not been to Kew, but it is not far from me, and I have a decent camera to take pics. Can I access the original ORBs or do I need to use a PC there are photograph the screen? If I can access the original docs, I assume this will be in a reading room and I need a ticket (and identification etc). Can I use a DSLR to photograph these? Sorry for the basic questions, TNA website is not very specific (and appears to be down for squadron details at this moment). Any hints or tips much appreciated!
All the Sqn ORB's are only viewable on Microfilm unless you have a very very very good reason to view the original.
You will be able to photocopy them direct from the screen as you look at them but they are 10p a shot or you maybe able to E mail them direct to your address. A lot better than £3.36 though. I do not believe you can photograph them clearly. Nick
Orb's cost around £30 at 10p a page, depending on thickness. It's my understanding the whole Op Record Book costs £3.36 to download.
For AIR 27 documents. If you are only interested in a couple of months between 1939 and 1945 then the download is the cheapest method. For only a few days between 1939 and 1945 a print/photograpgh of the page from the terminal at Kew is the cheapest method. For pre 1939 then the download is the cheapest. For more than a three months between 1939 to 1945 or a similar combination of monthly ORBs and Appendices then ordering the complete AIR 27 from reprographics on DVD was £20 per file eg £20 plus postage for a year of ORB. Recently they have been quoting £10 per file so at best you pay £70 for everything 1936 to 1945 or at worst £140. Regards Ross
