    Sapper Grundy formerly worked for Metropolitan Vickers at Trafford Park.He and others who fell during wartime service are remembered in the Roll of Honour established by the company and continued with GEC Alstom as a successor company.

    The R of H book had a new page presented each day.

    A Salford born soldier from just across the Manchester Ship Canal from Trafford Park.
     
  2. 18 at time of death late 1942 so 16 or 17 1940 looks right as an Army apprentice....

    Thanks for the input and information - very useful. I will check it against my overview and come back to you. I am working with Ion Drew, the author of Silent Heroes, and am hoping to find out more about those servicemen for whom there was little information available at the time of the book´s publication in 2011. The ambition is to produce an updated version of Silent Heroes, as well as a one-off museum exhibition and series of site visits in Norway to coincide with the 80th Anniversary of the raid in 2022.
