It should be 3 Canadian Infantry Division, gold maple leaf over French Grey. 1 CID was in Italy.

Right, ill get right on these corrections :P then Omaha, Utah, Gold, Juno and Sword. Then Royal Navy and US Navy units and RAF supporting units. I will also try and source my finding as to where I find these patches.

I think LittlFletch is interested in the patches sewn on uniforms rather than the AoS squares seen only on vehicles. If vehicle signs are useful, then the 3 (British) Inf Div sign shown above was normally seen on a circular red background on vehicles (but as shown on uniforms).

Ive changed the typeface from "American Typewritter" in bold to "Helvetica neue" Condensed black. It should look more accurate, the only reason I used that typeface (though reluctantly) because of the patches i have seen on the interwebs.

I also got the colours of the KRRC patch from this site:

Well patchs for now, I can come back and do vehicle Etymology if I can get hold of or if any has clear pictures of the tanks used. But that will be another project I think and another big one.

Regarding the 987th, the battalion used the designation 'armored field artillery battalion' in Korea, for which the patch shown is appropriate. However, I don't think it was designated 'armored' in WWII so the patch shown would not be right.

    Good point, TTH.

Do you have access to its WWII equivalent?

    Best,

    Steve.

Here is a patch for the GHQ Liaison Regiment. I am still trying to find something for the 987th FA.

These three badges belonged to my late father's comrade, Gunner Len Harvey, of F Troop, 318 Battery, 92nd (Loyals) LAA Regiment, RA. They are the actual ones he wore when F Troop landed on Sword Beach on D-Day.

The most notable of the three is the red rose badge, which was worn with the RA and 3rd Div badge to indicate that 92nd LAA was originally a Lancashire unit - 7th Battalion, The Loyal Regiment (North Lancashire). Len died in June last year.

    Cheers tmac and TTH,
Just added your patches into the series of patches and my condolences to Len.

Ive come to the conclusion that its kind of futile posting up new pics until Ive got all of them from every beach. I think it would go a little faster that way. then once I have all the patches, I'll show them and then if its at a satasfactory state Ill then post up the Corps and Beach units.Im just trying and organise this into manageable chunks. So if everyone interested could post up info or pictures of patches that would be great. :)

I would recommend against using that site as a firm reference - most of those badges are post war reproductions (that's the kind word for them). The Imperial War Museum's on line collection is a better resource (and I know the chap who catalogues them, who will not allow any dubious badges through). But the background colour of the KRRC title is correct - a very dark green.

Oh I know, it looked sketchy at best and at first I didn't even go on the site, I just found it on google, IWM can get testy at times as references aren't always viewable as previously stated. Its going to be a hard project but Ithink we have all the right people in the right place :)

I'm a little surprised that some of those from north of the (river) Thames have not corrected you. The 50th Northumbrian Division indeed had the sign shown, but those two Ts are supposed to stand for rivers; the Tyne and the Tees. So only one Tyne!
