    Jonathan
Could I trouble you for one chap please who we/I missed on our visit a couple of years ago.

    55.G.3 Grissam/David Rfmn 14449287 Royal Ulster Rifles 4/4/1945

Interested to see if he has the word Airborne on his headstone as he was part of 1 RUR who were part of 6 Airlanding Brigaide.

A word of advice too, if I may, the cemetery is very big and can take a while to walk from one side to the other, so plan your plot visits accordingly!!

Hope you have a good trip

    Regards
    Andy

No mention of the Airborne, Andy.

    Jonathan,

Thanks very much for posting the photographs of the 3 headstones from the Reichswald War Cemetery you kindly obtained for me. It is much appreciated. I trust you found it a rewarding trip.

This was the obituary that was written for Pte. J.E. Mackin in 1945:

From: 'The Whitehaven News', April 1945

    "FOUGHT FANATICAL GERMANS

Serving with the Somerset Light Infantry on the Continent, Pte. John Mackin (29), elder son of Mr and the late Mrs J. Mackin, Windermere Road, Whitehaven, has been killed in action. It was only last July that Mr Mackin received word that his other son Andrew had been killed in Normandy. Before joining the Forces in 1940, John served his apprenticeship with Mr. I. Skinner, painter and decorator, Whitehaven.

Major K.J. Whitehead, M.C. has written to the bereaved father stating that Pte. Mackin was killed by a mortar bomb at the close of a hard day's fighting against fanatical S.S. and paratroopers on the Rhine. He expressed regret at the loss of a splendid and popular soldier, also adding that the Whitehaven soldier was buried in the bridgehead cemetery".
