I picked up my old copy of the above to re-read for about the fourth time, and I started thinking about the signature at the front of the book, presumably from its original owner back in wartime. I can’t make much of the name out, but he was a pilot officer RAFVR in feb 1943. It got me thinking on a Sunday afternoon about who he may have been, what experiences he went through and of course whether he survived the next two years of war. I’ll obviously never know the answers, but it just got me thinking so I thought I’d share with everybody.

Superb thanks Ross, I half hoped there would be somebody on here who would be able to offer a plausible guess at the name!
I’ve just read the link details. What a tragedy. The more I look at the signature it seems to fit the name.
