    For 6GG accounts, see:

    • The Guards in Tunisia
"Casualties in the “Horseshoe” action were heavy. The GRENADIERS lost over 250 killed, wounded and missing, and were left with but 11 officers in the Battalion. The COLDSTREAM lost more than 150 men. The SCOTS GUARDS in reserve did not suffer severely.
This operation was described by General Montgomery as “a great success; we got the identifications we needed, and all the ground we must have for the big blow.” This hard-fought engagement drove in the enemy position, enabled us to gain close contact with the Mareth defences, and probably misled the enemy as to where our main blow would fall."
