    Hi All,

I don't suppose anyone has photos of the WW2 names from either of these two memorials? I've found good images online for the overall shot, but nothing that shows those remembered.

Here is what I have so far:

    http://nlwmemorial.tripod.com/nlwmemorial/pages/pagesmisc/ww2plaques.htm

    http://www.geolocation.ws/v/E/1976885/heywood-war-memorial/en

I am currently going through my Longcloth Chindit casualties and attempting to find their local memorial. It's been quite successful really with a 30% success rate so far. I'm up to the G's.

    Thanks for reading.

I was just about to say that I was born near Heywood, but I just worked out that I come from Great Haywood, just down the road from Little Haywood (apparently) and that Haywood & Heywood are a fair distance apart on opposite sides of Manchester.

But as I plan on visiting that area on my forthcoming holiday to the UK (as a day trip by train to Stafford then a hire car for the day including a drive to Great Haywood and on to Manchester) it is not impossible that I can swing out to Heywood if I have time.

    Never say never.......

PS - I just noticed the 1 year lag in between the question and the first response .

I have all the names on Heywood war memorial photographed but I can't make out which are WW1 and which are WW2, there's nothing on the memorial to indicate which is which and names have been added on all over! If I post all the names will that help? You can then sort out which is which (and save me a job!)

I started to check some of the names on Heywood's memorial and it turned out that all the names are from WW1. The memorial simply has "and The World War 1939-1945" added to the main dedication. UKNIWM has no listing for a WW2 memorial, with names, for the town which means you're looking at the various churches for WW2 names. http://www.ukniwm.org.uk/server.php?useSearchSession=1&show=nav.002006003

Thanks for all your efforts there BereniceUK. Donald Healey's family certainly ensured that he would be remembered in the local area.

What's the name you're looking for in Heywood?

I'm looking for the hometown memorial of Clifford Grundy, if one exists. Here are his CWGC details:

    http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead/casualty/2510203/GRUNDY,%20CLIFFORD

I made contact with a Chindit veteran who basically told the story of Clifford and his selfless actions in 1943, which helped others get out of Burma unhindered by their wounded comrade. The story is on my website here:

    http://www.chinditslongcloth1943.com/frank-lea-ellis-grundy-and-the-kaukkwe-chaung.html

    Thanks again for your help.

    Best wishes
