Hi, A relative enlisted as a 2nd Lt. in the NZAAF in 1943, upon leaving a fee paying school in Gloucester. I am wondering if anyone might know where she served i.e. Europe or The Pacific, for example, would be a helpful starting point. Thanks, Gordon
Hi Gordon Perhaps a few more details - do you have her service record?, do you know what units she served in, whats her name, date of birth, what did she do after the war (nursing for example which could be associated with her service) etc just to help members to help you. Often from diverse facts the truth will emerge TD PS - check out - https://natlib.govt.nz/items?text=NZ+Army+Auxiliary+Force+(Women)&commit=Search
It was a hint on Ancestry that appeared against her name: Miss Sylvia Margaret Snow It was in a notice issued by the NZ Army Department at Wellington NZ; Dated 1st March 1943, saying that she was appointed as a 2nd Lt. in the NZ Women's Army Auxiliary Corps.
Both records I found indicate she was a “cipher officer”, and rank of LT The “roll” of a cipher officer (in general) was: coding, decoding and typing out secret messages from across the world Roll 13: 1 Jan 1944 - 31 Mar 1944 Roll 14: 1 Apr 1944 - 31 Dec 1944
