600 Regiment RA, were also taking part in actions around Dunkirk, April 1945 along with the same Czech units.

It may help to give some sense of what was happening at the time. I'll post the pages shortly.

The Germans still had a lot of fight in them. From 600 Regt war diary, 20 Officers and 653 Other Ranks under command. 601 Regiment is also mentioned.

Ideal, so part of the besieging forces at Dunkirk, I've added to my notes.

    Thank you

I saw those 600 Regiment war graves years ago and wanted to find out how so many men died, a long way from Germany. Another forgotten battle, which tied up a lot of men and resources and only 25 miles from the UK.

Sometimes, the war diaries cough up little gems like a typed after action report. :)

    Regards - Rob

Interesting , my father was with the 67th searchlight regiment and was transferred to the 67th garrison regiment and sent out to France on December 4th 1944 , I think February 1945 he was again transferred to the 608th regiment ..would they have been trained for more infantry role Rob ?

I don't think it was as much a transfer between units as the unit being converted in role - so effectively he stayed with the same unit even though it had 3 different names and jobs.

A lot of gunners were reroled as infantry and they went through special RA to Infantry training although I'm not sure how thorough it was - I'm sure I just read something about such men in Italy and them not really being up to speed but also them being very pee'd off at having got dropped into Infantry units
