From Geoff's search engine, UK numbers on memorials and known burials for WW1, daily totals.
(numbers may be slightly different to CWGC database!)

First day Loos (25-9-15) is a surprisingly big number, especially if you consider only 6 Divs took part in the attack, compared with 13 Divs on the first day of the Somme.

Over 18300 deaths in one day is truly staggering

I may re-run it tomorrow and put some percentages in.....tried Excel plot, but too many columns to make any sense of the plot.

Sorry Geoff, badly phrased, really meant that the members on there would be very interested in these figures.

I'm only in (Ir)regular contact with a couple of chaps on GWF and we often discuss guitars or other data sets! (I may have been banned  ).
I've added the %age figures to the webpage.

I got the data from their website, between 2005-2007 and did not find all the records. Also some records were moved or added since then.

    Geoff,

    ok and thanks..

I have an interest in the first day of Loos so noticed the difference in that light..I have now "discovered" from your data chart that 25th Sept 1915 saw the 2nd most number of deaths (over 9000) for the British Army in the Great War.

I'm also in the midst of arranging the addition of 50 names of men to a Regimental Memorial Board so wanted to make sure that I'm not missing anything..

    thanks again.

    best

What prompted me to do this list was I had a sorted list of days with the highest losses - posted on here somewhere but could not find it with either a WW2talk search or Google.
Always go to the CWGC website (when it is working!) for the best data!
