The Campanile Hotel in Bayeux is inexpensive and a good location.

He'd be better off passing on his money to a French B&B owner or two in the areas of his choice. He'd likely be able to glean some inside info as well as have a better understanding of the battles from the ordinary perspective. Sitting in a Campnile would be a soul less experience, detracting rather than adding to the whole in my opinion.

Just Google chambre d'hotes in the preferred areas, many will speak or understand enough english to take a booking. The food will be better too!

Yep, but he asked for cheap accommodation and often B&Bs are more expensive than hotels like the Campanile and very few B&Bs in Normandy are within walking distance of restaurants in a city centre.

    Good point Paul.
Although I dislike some of the larger chains of hotels in this case I think you have it right.

I've been lucky enough to find and book a property in Lion-Sur-Mer, 3 Bedrooms, close to the beach, end of June, £300 for the week and an English Owner. For the 4 of us sharing, very reasonable.

A list of gites/B&B's in or close to towns/villages in Normandie.

    Gites de France Normandie

It's in French, but easy enough to understand. Prices vary.

I also know quite a few owners up there, being in the same business, but sunnier! So if anyone needs any help, drop me a PM.
