I omitted to say in my original post that within the British Memorial is also a Memorial to the French civilians who lost their lives during the Battle for Normandy.

The British Memorial is ideally situated overlooking 'Gold Beach' and the vestiges of the Mulberry Harbour can be clearly seen looking west towards Arromanches.
There is more than ample free onsite parking and full toilet facilities available.

The coastal road provides easy access to the plentiful restaurants in small towns and villages along this route. Access to the N13 dual carriageway linking Cherbourg to Caen which then becomes the A13 Autoroute (Toll) from Caen to Paris.

There are some views both for and against this particular memorial but I would have to say it is beautiful and a magnificent structure.

I am saying this as the daughter of a 'D-Day Dodger' who was wounded at Monte Cassino and survived WW2.
