"Attritional" good word. 5th Camerons history states;" casualties from7th to 30th June were the heaviest it incurred than in any other month of the campaign in North-west Europe.
2 Officers killed, 15 wounded out of an establishment of 36.
27 other ranks killed,15 died of wounds, 161 wounded, which accounted for a quarter of its other ranks posted strength.

    I suspect others suffered equally!

5th Black Watch lost more men in the first three months of Normandy then they lost in North Africa over the previous two and a half years.

One thing I recall well was the German shelling of the gliders that landed a long time after they landed, I think they did that to ensure they would not be used again.

As to all the units that were at Pegasus Bridge. During the time we were there we hardly saw a single soul...And I dont blame them. Defending it? We had to break off and do that ourselves. No one else around.

Bash on to Bremen with 246.
