Christopher Plummer played Chapman in Triple Cross .
Eddie Chapman's role as a double agent for the British has been greatly aggrandised Should not be taken as a true account of his activities related to British intelligence.
Anybody know anything about a Czech film called 'Tobruk'? Saw it in the local video shop last night? There's a thread on here about it Capitano...Me and Owen watched it and thought it was good, I'm sure some other folk did too - Well I did

It appears as though HBO's "The Pacific" is based upon two memoirs, With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. Both of these books are absolutely great and, if it does them justice, the mini-series is a can't miss. Looks like I'm going to have to sign up for HBO before March.

No doubt The Pacific will be a tremendous success like Band of Brothers was. They will probably want to do another WW2 series thereafter...what would everyone like to see? I was thinking perhaps a miniseries about the WW2 battles in North Africa.
The China-Burma-India theatre would be a good series with the Flying Tigers, Merrill's Marauders, the Chindits, and the OSS in Burma.
The China-Burma-India theatre would be a good series with the Flying Tigers, Merrill's Marauders, the Chindits, and the OSS in Burma. And XIV Army - don't forget them (again)! In fact, something with the Indian Army might be an idea as it would tick a lot of boxes for funding; probably end up being about INA 'freedom fighters', though. I've always thought that 'Arnhem Lift' has the right sort of scope for a film. 'With the Jocks' or '18 Platoon' might be a more direct parallels to 'Band of Brothers' for a series. Why not trounce Saving Private Ryan with a British or Canadian D-Day film - though it might be tricky logistically. I would personally rather see something about a dull old line regiment rather than l33t units. Or Zeebrugge, but that's the wrong war.
Here's some more WW2 films release dates TBA... Flying Tigers: Flying Tigers (TBA) Movie Based on the volunteer fighter squadron formed to help the Chinese fight the Japanese before the U.S. entered World War II. The Long Green Shore: The Long Green Shore (TBA) Movie Set in mid-1945 after V-E Day, but before the fall of Japan, this is the story of an Australian battalion sent to New Guinea to force the beleaguered Japanese to retreat - however the enemy troops will fight to the very end. Indianapolis: Indianapolis (2009) Movie During World War II, the U.S.S. Indianapolis is sunk by a Japanese sub following a secret mission to deliver materials for the atomic bomb that will be dropped on Hiroshima. The men float for five days in the Philippine Sea and only 317 of an estimated 900 who abandoned ship are pulled from the shark-infested waters. The Dirty Dozen: The Dirty Dozen (2009) Movie A major enlists twelve condemned soldier-prisoners for a dangerous mission. A modern update on the 1967 actioner that starred Lee Marvin as a major who conscripts twelve condemned soldier-prisoners for a dangerous mission in WWII.
New Midway movie coming out in Nov. Hope it is good. I think CGI can really add to a movie if it is done well. I'm no expert but it looks very cartoonlike in the trailer to me. What do you folks think? Midway (2019) - IMDb
Assume most of you saw this about a Sam Manekshaw biopic being made. Why is India war hero Sam Manekshaw trending? I expect there will be a section on his time in Burma--there are a number of very 'cinematic' anecdotes of his life. This is a great likeness, but I don't have high hopes for the film. Anything historical that Indian cinema touches becomes a) an exaggerated flag-waving exercise, b) a chance to do down Pakistan.
