  1. I am very excited to have found this site! The depth of knowledge found here is truly amazing. I have a feeling it will be invaluable to me, as I am writing a historical fiction novel about an American doctor, serving in the RAMC during WWII.

    Hi Karen

Welcome aboard and good luck with your book !

I reminded by your proposed plot that when i joined the 4th Hussars we had an adjutant who was a Canadian volunteer and I found myself actually cooking for him, as my memoirs show :)

" Back to the cooking while I think of it. It was the practice then for two tanks to "mess" together for the purposes of drawing rations etc., and we used to mess with Lt. Walmsley's tank. If I remember rightly he was second adjutant to the squadron leader, but he was certainly Canadian by birth. I still remember the fact that he used to put his marmalade on top of his fried bacon, and when he once saw me looking at him with amusement he rejoined; "It all goes down the same hole, doesn't it?"

    Best regards

    Ron

  7. Thanks for the encouragement. I am having almost too much fun with my research - I keep learning new and fascinating things, and it makes it hard to get back to the actual writing sometimes.
