I just purchased and read Mulberry and the Magic Box by the late Jack Livesey (Bridget Pollard, Ed.) I learnt the some of the Roadway sections were transferred by a couple ferries, but no names were mentioned (July 1 and 2). There was also mention of LSD Northney using it's deck well on several trips (July 5, 11 and 13) and was filled with 10, 4 and 4 Beetles respectively, along with further Roadways on the last two. However Northney appears to be a land based station on Hayling Island, so is it a misprint in the book? Just wondered if any knowledgeable folks like Michel, Spitfire of the Seas or Trux have some more insight. Certainly an interesting little known item. Thanks in advance.
Hello twinotterpilot. On HMS Northney: HMS Northney I, II, III & IV A Landing Ship, Dock, with beetles, emanating from Northney perhaps? Kind regards, always, Jim.
Thanks for the reply. After much searching, the UK had 4 US ships (LSD 9, 10, 11 and 12; HMS Eastway, Highway, Northway and Oceanway, all returned to the US in 1946). So my guess a typo in the book.
