Sunday 3 August 2014 (centenary of Germany's declaration of war on France) On Sunday 3 August 2014, centenary of Germany's declaration of war on France, President François Hollande of France and President Joachim Gauck of Germany will make a joint tribute to the fallen soldiers of both countries at Vieil Armand (Hartmannswillerkopf) cemetery, Alsace. A foundation stone will also be laid for a new 'Great War' memorial and exhibtion centre at the site.
