Hi. I am new to this site. I am a military historian specialising in the Great War, but I also have a strong interest in the Second War. My Second War interest is primarily about both 1st and 2nd Battalions of The Royal Regiment of Canada. I am the author of a book on a Great War subject, and am currently assessing a broad range of topics for a second book. Dan
Dan Welcome to the forum from Toronto, home of the 1967 Stanley Cup Champions. There are a few Canadians on the site. The senior guy goes by the name of "Canuck". What's the title of your book?
Thanks to all for the warm welcome messages! To answer 17thDYRCH, the name of my book is One-Two-Three: The Story of the 123rd Overseas Battalion, Royal Grenadiers, CEF. Dan
welcome to the forum (from fellow Calgary member) also with a strong interest in the Great War Bob R.
Welcome Dan, We need more cow town representation here. I think you'll like it here. By the way, check your sources. Randy is actually more senior than I am.
Thanks Randy. Longevity is always a relative thing Somebody has to be the first one through the door! Glad you enjoyed the PP. Thanks also, to the warm welcome from the other members. Dan
Although I am American, I think the above crew have taken me in as an honorary Canadian. My line of research is the Canadian Army in WWII, particularly the forces at home. I have the war diaries for the 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Canada from the outbreak of war up until March 1945 if you are interested in some aspect. BTW, welcome to the forum.
It would appear that David does have some maple syrup running through his veins and has a rumoured poutine addiction. But, we're glad to have him. The man does excellent work on behalf of his adopted country.
Thanks for the welcome, David. I am quite interested in the war diaries. I asked the Regimental historian a while ago whether he could provide a copy and he responded that they had been 'misplaced' and no longer available. Are these digital files that can be electronically transmitted? I would be happy to pay a reasonable fee for digital copies of them. Dan
Yes, they are digital copies that were photographed at the LAC (Library and Archives of Canada). I have the war diaries from September 1939 to March 1945 at this time. PM me with your email and we can see about details. There will be no charge. I am happy to help.
I am sure there is an easy way to send a PM; alas, my old brain isn't able to decipher it My email address starts with my username on this forum coupled directly to the word 'battalion' and is on the 'gmail.com' domain. Regards, Dan
Hi 123rd The old site used PM's this site however uses 'conversations' - these can be started from your page - go to your username at top right of page, hover over your username then select 'conversations' and away you go (I hope) TD
