I first reported this back in March 2011 http://ww2talk.com/index.php?thread...al-error-reports-and-results.25642/page-22and finally the new headstone marker has been installed.
    Kensal Green (All Souls) Cemetery
This chaps headstone was private and completely weatherworn. He now has a proper commemoration marker.

If further detail could be added about this casualty I would appreciate it.

Suggest you pm Patwalker who is a member on here, as he wrote a book about the 6th H.A.A. during WW2.
I've checked the book and can't see at first glance any further info about J. Allen other than what you've already got, but Pat did release a later edition which might have more info in, or he may still have some snippets of info within his individual notes.

So we presume he died back in UK after being released and repatriated? - so if a Northumberland born & bred lad was he in a hospital or did he have family there (in or around Kensal Green)?

Does anyone have contact with FEPOW - they have a wrong number for him

Captured Java. Transported to Kuching, Borneo. Without the death certificate one cannot be sure how he died but towards the end of the war the death rate at Kuching POW Camp soared. Many of those repatriated from here would have been very sick.

I attach a copy of his completed returning POW form with more details. His address was 64 Park Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He stated that he was captured in Java on 9/3/1942.

I had a look through the newspaper archive and although there was a couple of extensive interviews with a GNR JOHN ALLEN on his release from Japanese captivity it does not appear to be `this` John Allen. The news articles report this was a naval gunner from London Sorry :(
Interesting address which Ramacal found 64 Park Road ,Newcastle upon Tyne ? The Newcastle Journal 06 September 1940 ran an article referring to Newcastles first purpose built Nursery and Childrens playrooms the address.....64 Park Road,Newcastle upon Tyne ? The area today is much run down and although Park Road still exists it consists of 1960`s high rise flats.

Dear CL1 I have just come across your post on Gunner/Driver John Allen and the generous help from members of this forum. I am afraid I can add no new details to what you already know. I have included him in the Roll of Honour for the Regt at the back of my book since I noticed he died shortly after wars end. Without confirmation I assumed it was probably from the effects of being a POW for three and a half years. If you wish to read his war story of what he did and where he went then all these details are within my book which covers all three batteries from 1939 to release in 1945 on an almost daily basis.. Most men on return were seriously ill physically and mentally but it is possible he had been wounded and had not recovered from this. Apparently he spent most of his time in Kuching Camp which initially was not too bad but as the war progressed became a terrible place.
