Tons wrong with it, Dingo MkIIIs and other kit that appear in 1945 etc. Barely any of them can even wear their kit right and most of the extras posting selfies from the set are 18... which poses a whole series of other issues on representation of the BEF. Its pretty clear the HA's are not doing their job, or just drinking cuppas and accepting it'll be an ahistorical piece of shite. Pity as the budget was there to do it properly. Much like Fury... such a missed opportunity. The other one being made about Churchill/Ike looks potentially to be even worse.
Going back to the aftermath of Dunkirk, the Germans made an overall comment on the dental heath of British POWs. They observed that a large proportion had false teeth as opposed to the Wehrmacht who they declared enjoyed better dental care....no doubt used in the propaganda war but also had an element of truth in it.
I agree with the teeth thing - and none of those actors looks even remotely dirty - wouldn't they look somewhat more filthy and dishevelled if they'd been in action for weeks? I've not done anything remotely military in my life; the nearest I came was a long hike across Dartmoor, DofE style. We lived in a tent for 3-4 days and we were dirty, tired and probably smelly. I realise military discipline would have helped, but those guys look brand-new. I didn't know you could CGI in fatigue?
So, what we're saying is they should pull some of Harry Styles' teeth out, put a pudding bowl on his head and cut around it, make him smoke 5 packs of cigarettes a day, then role him round in some s**t for a while. Sounds good to me. Dear Mr. Nolan...
Lots of the extras are wearing polyester cotton onesies...https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNlMbc9k35yXp2vz24NUJWmwnMvlbVQ6_Pf-7i1thxYLHbwkUwhDb5wk6x0R4-i9g/photo/AF1QipNxC1XshJZtZQaa_DbsbUC-A44VIY-WnCyRrTI?key=QS1fSDhOdWloRmVOSV9oMGJGN3dXMUExWXp4YUJR
Criticism aside and to balance the argument....I have seen a lot of images from Dunkirk of late. Mainly on Facebook and evey now and them I get a big smile on my face and think 'Fucking hell, that's bang on just like the B&W images I've seen from 1940'. Some of the images I've seen of the East Mole that they have built look bang on. Whilst I appreciate the concerns over vehicles and uniforms, trust me I want the film to be right as much as the next person but if the extras are so far away you can't see the detail it doesn't matter surely? That Spitfire has got a May 1940 colour scheme according to Spitfie MkI/II Aces by Dr Alfred Price.
I went to your FB timeline & looked for the album you 'liked'. https://www.facebook.com/vincent.villemaire/media_set?set=a.10154084108467310.1073742020.686847309&type=3
That's not the one I'm thinking of. There's one where they have mad a hole in the gangway just like in 1940
MkVII Respirator case and stitched rather than one piece woven Straps, Shoulder, Haversack !, quite apart from the F.S. cap in the middle of his head, the boots, DMS and the fact that no one has told them how to put on their anklets correctly. If a job's worth doing, it's worth doing properly !
I am a big fan of Mr. Nolan so I expect this to be a very entertaining film. How accurate will it be is the question. I think that it will be pretty close, which is all I can expect from a movie these days, and that in my opinion is better than no movie at all.
Not so sure about that Andy, The Metro stated Perhaps it will be on similar lines to the original John Mills `Dunkirk` with made up names and not portraying anyone in particular Kyle
