New CWGC Commemoration 9th March 2021

    CWGC added the following casualties to the WW2 Civilian War Dead Roll today.

    SIMMONDS, Nora Ethel
    Died 29.05.45 Age 30
    Reporting Authority: Easington, Rural District

    NOT FORGOTTEN

    The above was an In From the Cold Project case

    - Nora Simmonds was killed in a car when it was struck by a crashing RAF aircraft (Volunteer: Mark Haycock)

    What aircraft was it & what happened to the crew ?

    Husband of Dora May Davies, of 75 Holmefield Road, St. Annes-on-Sea, Lancashire. Died of injuries received at Easington.

    There was also this chap who it was believed was driving Nora Simmonds.

    That writing is terrible.
    Still can't work out the type of aircraft.

    RAF was still using chisel and stone slabs in Records Section - after all Pontius was still going through pilot training.
